Modern Decorative Laminates

Now we are going to talk about the laminate flooring. This is a material that is created in such a way that it looks like a normal wood flooring. This material is synthetic and it can be made of synthetics or combinations of synthetics with some natural ingredients. The whole material is in the end topped with a decorative appliqué. The most popular laminate patterns are the wood ones. It is considered to be the best choice for rooms where real wood is impossible to be used. The colors are very natural and also quite varied, imitating even the different species of wood. The laminate flooring can also be of the same style as the wood ones, such as strip, plank or parquet. An important thing to mention here is the fact that the laminate is designed to be more efficient, being able to face moisture much better than any natural wood floor. This is amazing for the ones who always wanted a wooded floor in places like the bathroom, but were discouraged because the wood?s frailty to water.

Use our thermo-fused melamine faced panels furniture laminates. It's a best option for furniture flooring. It's used for all types of office and home furnitures and other interiors. It's also used for Kitchen worktops, Carcasses, Shelves and in restaurants.

What is Laminate?

A laminate is a material constructed by uniting two or more layers of material together. The process of creating a laminate is lamination, which usually refers to sandwiching something between layers of plastic and sealing them with heat and/or pressure.

The materials used in laminates can be the same or different . For example, by applying a layer of plastic film either side of a sheet of glass, the glass is said to be the laminated subject. The plastic is said to be the laminate.

Examples of laminate materials include Formica and plywood. Formica and similar plastic laminates (such as Pointe or Wilson art) are often referred to as High Pressure Decorative Laminate (HDPL) as they are created with heat and pressure of more than 5 lbf/in² (34 kPa).

Laminating paper, such as photographs, can prevent them from becoming creased, sun damaged, wrinkled, stained, smudged, abraded and/or marked by grease, fingerprints and environmental concerns. Photo identification cards and credit cards are almost always laminated with plastic film.

Consumer interest is currently being stimulated by the introduction of new technologies, new product features, and easier installation. Laminate flooring manufacturers and marketers are also receiving a boost from the relatively strong housing market. This is giving a lift to the important residential replacement market. In addition, marketers have been able to take advantage of favorable demographics, as well as declining average prices. Rising demand has resulted in manufacturers making investments in new production capacity. As a result, the market is forecast to reach $1.7 billion in 2009.

Wilson Art - Decorative Laminate Manufacturer

Wilsonart International is a brand laminate manufacturer. It was founded as a producer of high pressure decorative laminate in 1956 in Temple, Texas, by Ralph Wilson, Sr., a retired laminate industry executive. Wilson’s intent was never to build a major competitor — the field in those days included 12 domestic competitors — but rather to fill his free time.

Throughout the 1960s, Wilson’s “hobby” grew dramatically through a formula comprising a dedicated local work force, high-quality products and an old-fashioned commitment to customer service.

By the end of the 1970s, Wilsonart® Laminate had become one of the nation’s leading brands of decorative laminate. A new plant, located in Fletcher, North Carolina, was added in 1979 to meet increasing demand for product. Less than eight years later, “Temple North” — the world’s most highly efficient, state-of-the-art laminate production facility — came on line in Temple. This facility has since doubled in size and is over 500,000 square feet.

Wilsonart International also produces and distributes its own brand of Wilsonart® Adhesives. The manufacturing facility in Temple, Texas produces a wide range of adhesive products for ever-changing market needs.

Laminate Flooring Disadvantages

Possibly the biggest disadvantage of laminates is their "green" value. Flooring that doesn't last the mortgage life of a home could arguably be considered less earth friendly than many of the alternates such as bamboo or linoleum. Lower-end laminates may last only 10–15 years. At that point the material can't be refinished so it ends up in the landfill. Petroleum-based resins may be used and off-gassing of formaldehyde can occur depending on the manufacturer, process, and materials used. Many of these objections can be overcome by purchasing a better product with more durable finishes and higher quality to withstand traffic over the long haul.

Go green with bamboo flooring

Not only is bamboo flooring gorgeous, it can also be an environmentally friendly alternative to natural hardwood flooring. Many of the higher-end hardwood flooring materials come from harvesting wood species from the earth’s rainforests. Once harvested, these hardwood species often never grow back due to the thin layers of soil and lack of sunlight under the jungle canopies, and if they do grow back it can take up to 200 years.

Our global rainforests are the lungs of our planet and provide a significant contribution to our global oxygen production, second only to the ocean. If you want to make a difference you can read more about the reasons behind the rising popularity and trendiness of bamboo flooring.

Installing laminate flooring

Trouble-free and cost-effective methods of purchasing and installing your hardwood and laminate flooring project on time and under budget.

Buy the product & hire installation labor

If you are reasonably certain you can find a good installer in your area, purchasing your product on-line from wholesale outlets and having it shipped directly to your location is a way to potentially save a lot of money. You may actually find that the savings you accrued on the direct wholesale purchase will pay for your installation labor, and actually cost less than buying the product retail and installing it yourself.

Professional installers and contractors

We recommend you hire professional help for all flooring types other than glueless click-lock floating floor systems. Professional contractors usually have established relationships with flooring wholesalers and good access to installation labor. We recommend you get at least 3 quotes from reputable contractors in your area and to check there references carefully before signing any contract or making a deposit payment.

Tips for laminate flooring at discount prices

Before you buy any laminate flooring at discount rates, check same basics while you are at the shop. Most often dealer might not allow you to return these discount laminate flooring as it has been reduced in pricing. So check beforehand and you should avoid any hassle.

Same manufacturer and same lot of discount laminate floor

Make sure you get any discount laminate flooring always from the same manufacturer. Even if both call it "oak laminate flooring" - the color and edge profile might be totally different. If possible also check that you buy the same lot. Most parquet manufacturers label their flooring with lot or production numbers. If you get your discount laminate flooring from the same lot you can avoid a lot of problems.

Check the quality of each package

If you get any kind of overstock or rest packages of discount laminate flooring, you should really have a good look at each pack. Sometimes it lies around many weeks in the shop and might get hit. So check if any edge of the laminate flooring has been damaged. In case you see a damaged panel, do think about whether you could still use it and perhaps ask for an additional discount.

Edge profile on different lots of discount laminate flooring

edge of discount laminate flooringLaminate flooring if you get it from the same manufacturer should really not vary from lot to lot. However sometime manufacturers slightly change their edge profile. Therefore open boxes of the two different lots and test the fit of the joint, using one panel of each laminate flooring.

Surface and color test

Also check, particularly if you get discount laminate flooring from different lots, if the color of the floor is the same. Sometimes it can be different or bleached, depending on where it has been stored. Also touch the surface of the laminate and make sure it has the same finish.

An acoustic laminate underlay to their extensive soundproofing range.

fLaminate floors are one of the biggest causes of domestic noise problems Whilst they provide an easy to clean and child friendly flooring solution they are not neighbour friendly
When you walk on these surfaces a large amount of impact as well as airborne noise is created (due to the hard surface) this can often be a nuisance to the people living below.
Sound Service (Oxford) has recently added an Acoustic Laminate Underlay to their extensive soundproofing range.
The Acoustic Laminate Underlay is designed specifically to reduce the impact noise (walking/footfall) creating when walking on a laminate, engineered wooden floor.
The Acoustic Laminate Underlay is made up of a 4.2mm layer of high density resilient rubber sponge with a foil faced moisture barrier laminated to one side.
It can be easily cut with a knife or scissors and if used in conjunction with the soundproofing mats from Sound Service, it will provide both impact AND airborne noise reduction through the floor with minimal height rise.
As well as offering superior sound performance the underlay also incorporates a vapour barrier, eliminating the need for extra moisture protection such as polythene sheeting and is also suitable for use with under floor heating.
Sound tests have shown that the Acoustic Laminate Underlay has a weighted Impact Sound Improvement Index of (Delta Lw) 27dB!! As a percentage it would perform approximately 40 % better than a standard "off the shelf" laminate underlay from a DIY chain.
